About Us:

Slater Software has been developing and publishing software for the Special Education market since 1994. It was originally founded by Jean Slater, a speech pathologist, and Jim Slater, a computer programmer, who "put their heads together" to build innovative software solutions to some of the problems Jean was facing in her public school caseload.

Our flagship product was Picture It, originally for use with Microsoft Windows 3.1, which included 900 black and white picture symbols. It was a proof-of-concept teacher tool which succeeded. Its success allowed us to improve and expand it, while developing other software products.

Picture It software has evolved to version 4, which includes a library of approximately 6000 Literacy Support Pictures™, text-to-speech, easy importing. It currently works on both Macintosh and Windows systems, to include MacOS 8.6-10.4 and Windows 98-XP.

Our product line has grown over the last 12 years to include our very popular PixWriter software, as well as many Teacher Resources. Recent development efforts have added Spanish capabilities to both Picture It and PixWriter.

As we continue to enjoy our second decade in business, we would like to express our gratitude to our customers for their continuing support.

Our goal remains as it was in the beginning: to produce easy-to-use software tools which promote literacy and communication within the Special Needs community.
